Writing Prompt (3/30)

I made an extra challenge for me to try and stick to one storyline, so do not only think of this as a way how to stay creative, but also as a story that will continue with every new post. Let me know your opinions.

She sat in the chair, staring into space, while the kids charged around above her, yelling at the tops of their voices. She still couldn’t believe that she forgot about her sister-in-law, Jenny and her children, Kate and Adam.

Geez, I hate kids,‘ Alice thought to herself.

“Okay, Al. Tell me what the heck has happened to you? Are you going on some kind of lover-finding spree? Because I don’t understand this.”

“Well. I know that Ray has developed some strange habits and routines. And more often than not, a lover is a common reason why. So, I hired a PI and he gave me some photos, but he couldn’t surely say what Ray had been doing prior to that.” Al said while she drank from her tea, enjoying the perfectly balanced taste.

“Good tea.”

“Thanks. And back to the topic. Yeah, but how about just asking him? Knowing my brother, he would definitely tell you straight.”

“Heh, we both know that ain’t the truth.”

“Yeah, that’s what you get when you marry an agent.” Jenny said.

“I can see that.”

“Well Al, I am sorry, but I don’t know if I really can’t help you. ” Her words got to Alice.

“I am sorry, but I don’t need your help. I just answered your question.” She said while looking out for the kids that suddenly took their game to the lower floor.

“Hey, Adam. Leave your sister alone. Kate, go and do homework.” Alice rolled her eyes and stood up to go to the guest room taking her cup of tea.

“We’re done here. Thanks for letting me stay.”

“Well, we’re still family, aren’t we?” Her sister-in-law smiled at her and wished her good night.

In the middle of the sleep, Jenny woke up to a muffled thud coming from the lower floor of her penthouse.

“Leaving so soon?” She said when she saw Alice ready to leave writing a note.

“I got a friend picking me up and driving back to my place. Thanks for the tea and the talk.” Alice said as she put on her leather jacket, grabbed her things and headed for the door.

“Al, wait. I still want to help you. It is not like Ray to cheat; we both know that. Send me those photos and I’ll see what I can do. After all, I am an agent.” Jenny slightly smiled at Al, who nodded and left. Jenny looked out the window to see her sister-in-law get in a car she recognized. Immediately after that, she picked up her phone and dialed her partner.

“You won’t believe this, Kev.”
